we cannot allow this to stand for the united states. egypt -- and i caution some in egypt, even the ambassador talked about this film being the impetus for this. i'm not convinced yet. we saw with the cartoons in the past that months went by and then there were information operations put together around those cartoons to incite violence. we have a lot more questions about what exactly happened in egypt if, in fact, that there wasn't some information operation to incite violence against the united states embassy. and i think we -- before we draw any conclusions about what the spark or the trigger of that event, i think we need to know those answers so we can appropriately ask the egyptians what happened and why they didn't secure the perimeter of our embassy in egypt and we're going to have some repairing to do in this relationship as we move forward. the egyptians need to take a very strong stance on this. i hope that they will. i know that we're working with them to that end. this all has to happen fairly quickly to regain americans' c

how does the president of the united states get re-elected with these kinds of unemployment numbers? >> well, because i think people understand the context of his presidency. he was handed the worst set of problems of any president since franklin dell nor roosevelt became president that weren't of his own making, by courageous action he saved the financial system, the automobile industry in this country. we were losing $750,000 -- 750,000 jobs a month, we've had 30 straight month of private sector gains, but significant progress. we're gaining almost 100,000 jobs last month as opposed to losing 750. the stock market has doubled. there are many indications this economy is coming back and the jobs will follow. remember where we were and where we are now. that's what you grade him on as you move the country forward from where it was and the answer is a resounding yes. >> one of the reasons why, fred, people aren't hiring is they don't know what the tax structure is going to look like, what loopholes will be taken out. this was "meet the press" yesterday. and also abc with both mitt romn

states or force the united states to declare a red line that you not put any president in a position where he has no option, no flexibility, and then is required to take action. i think we also have to take into account a retired intelligence official, the head said on "60 minutes" it would be a mistake for the united states to launch an attack at this time, that there was time to take further measures both diplomatic, covert and other types of actions. we have to take care and not allow another country to put an american president in an election year in a difficult position where he has no flexibility and then hands over the keys basically to the decision on war or peace to another leader. this is something no president can afford to do. i think that -- i understand prime minister benjamin netanyahu. i know him. he's a friend. but we have to take care when in somebody else's electoral cycle measure the words more carefully. >> thank you so much, bill cohen. up next, politico's jim vandehei, the romney campaign's blame game. this is "andrea mitchell reports" only on msnbc. in america

now we've seen a very different timeline from israel and the united states from netanyahu. netanyahu says within months iran will have gone beyond the point of no return. american intelligence believes there's more time. where do we stand now with israel and is mitt romney -- >> we stand -- >> that the president has thrown israel under the bus? >> well, first of all, the term throwing israel under the bus is really a remarkable -- you know, it's an unbelievably cynical explosivetive term that is also a lie. it is a fundamental lie. and mitt romney ought to be ashamed of himself for continuing to say it when he knows that prime minister netanyahu and defense minister ehud barak have both said this administration has the strongest security and military cooperation with israel it has ever had. ever. and the president has taken steps to put america in a position to deal with iran with whatever eventuality may be necessary, and i mean whatever eventuality may be necessary. the president made that crystal clear in his speech at the united nations. and, yesterday, prime minister n
